The Speaking Up for Safety programme has not been changed and the intent of the one-hour seminar remains the same. We encourage accredited Speaking up for Safety Presenters to review the guidance below to learn about the changes and gain strategies for seminar delivery.
The Speaking Up for Safety Project Lead within your organisation will provide you with a link to download an updated seminar Powerpoint, and handouts to support you to deliver Exercise 1: Barriers.
Watch Dr Stephen Priestley, Senior Medical Educator, Cognitive Institute deliver the one-hour seminar and observe how he runs each exercise and uses his presence, voice and the audience to deliver the presentation with impact.
Watch Dr Priestley demonstrate how to facilitate each exercise by setting the scene, explaining the purpose, and eliciting audience response and action.

New delivery format: Scripted dialogue
This exercise has been changed to a scripted dialogue between facilitator and one participant. As demonstrated in the video, the scripted dialogue is read to invite audience engagement and discussion.

A video featuring Cognitive Institute Faculty is now used to demonstrate the Safety C.O.D.E.TM language.
This new format is similar to the original Exercise 2 videos with ‘Check’, ‘Option’, ‘Demands’ and ‘Elevates’ graphics showing samples of language. ‘Elevates’ now includes language that demonstrates both forecasting and elevating

This exercise is a single video scenario for participants to rehearse using their own Safety C.O.D.E. language.
